A Tiny Tale Of Christmas Joy...

A Tiny Tale Of Christmas Joy...
Ms. Aarthi Krishnan
Posted on: Dec 16, 2014

Christmas does hold a special place in my heart, because I studied in a Christian school right from kindergarten till my XII grade. The hymns and carols we were taught captured me because I love music. I also remember the Christmas Day programs we used to put up, the carols we used to sing, the games we used to play to exchange gifts, etc. The spirit of sharing and caring not just during Christmas but throughout the year is something that's got imprinted in my heart after years of studying in a Christian school.

Love Heals All Trauma
- an inscrutable story of Sathya Sai and Dr. Chye

It was a beautiful morning at Brindavan in the erstwhile Bangalore. The birds chirped merrily with the gentle breeze that made all the trees in Trayee Brindavan sway to its tunes. The flowers were in full bloom and bees seemed to be buzzing in great industry and joy. There was an eager anticipation all around as this was the time when the Lord, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba, would make His appearance fordarshan. The carpeted path in front of Trayee Brindavan was lined by several blessed devotees who were waiting in silence for Swami.

The Birthday Bhojanam Festival

The Birthday Bhojanam Festival
Posted on: Nov 25, 2014

Every person who enjoyed the bliss of being in the Sai Kulwant Hall on the morning of November 23, 2014, after the celebration concluded moved to the huge enclosure erected behind N-6. Here there was another Love riot. More than 800 men and women, in blue and orange scarves, all from the state of Andhra Pradesh, were happily sweating it out to ensure that each one of the 50000 people who stepped in there left with a filled stomach and a satisfied smile. And for these volunteers every satisfied smile was like Swami smiling at them again and again; their happiness knew no bounds, their energy levels were beyond their own imagination and their dedication and commitment to His work simply infectious. See these snaps to get a glimpse of this festival of joyful service.

On His Birthday Embodying His Love in Our Lives
Posted on: Nov 23, 2014

In the wee hours of the day, when the villagers were deeply absorbed in propitiating Shiva, a baby descended charming beyond description. A little mole on the left cheek, a fold of flesh on the brow, and a cherubic smile lighting up His softly radiant face – He was simply irresistible. None could take their eyes off Him.

Women Must Lead With Their Ideals
Posted on: Nov 19, 2014

Sthree (Woman) is Grihalakshmi (the Goddess of prosperity for the home). She is hailed as Dharmapatni (the virtuous spouse). She is called Illalu (the mistress of the house) and Ardhaangi (the rightful half). People gloat over petty, insignificant titles like Padmasri and Padma Vibhushan conferred on them. But women have been conferred the highest titles which are valid for eternity. A home without a woman is like a forest.

So we would be glad if you could post pictures of these activities being taken up as individuals or groups to any social media with the tag,#Sailoveinaction. Purify Yourself and the World by Singing Bhajans

There is a big difference between Kirtanam and SankirtanamKirtanam is an individual affair. It is singing by an individual for the fulfilment of his prayers. Sankirtanam aims at the well-being of the whole universe. This is also described as Samajika bhajans (community singing). This method of singing bhajans was first initiated by Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.

“For the purpose of feeding ourselves, many lives are being sacrificed. In this process of our searching for food, many things like trees, birds, fish and animals are being sacrificed. Because these various living things are being sacrificed and are merging with human beings, they have also been acquiring human lives in their rebirth. None of these Jivas are getting any chance of rising higher than human lives. The entire life is being spent in making an effort to be reborn after one's death, thus repeating the cycle of birth and death.”

The Devi Navaratri or the Sharad Navaratri is one of the most important festivals observed in the Bharatiya tradition. Different regions of the subcontinent celebrate it in their own unique ways, but it goes without saying that this indeed is an auspicious nine-day period for all. Since the early 1940s Dasara (another name for this festival) has been observed with much gaiety and reverence in the presence of Bhagawan too.

This was in Mumbai. We were taking a walk one evening and heard the sounds of bhajans from a hall nearby. My family and I were drawn towards the music and went into the hall. The Sarva Dharma prayer was being sung and there we saw a huge picture of Swami. Of course, I had not seen Him or His pictures ever before. But in that moment, I had an instant feeling that yes, this is the God I want to see, I want to be with.I had no doubt that the two were the same.

- A Tribute to Mandolin U. Shrinivas

A MAESTRO, HIS MANDOLIN AND HIS MODESTY
- A Tribute to Mandolin U. Shrinivas
Posted on: Sept 20, 2014

He was a genius in music - such a genius that the name of the instrument he played got embedded in his name. His departure will be an irreparable loss to music. While the mandolin got him all the name, fame and glory, it will not be an overstatement to say that it was ‘Shrinivas’ that brought name, fame and glory to the mandolin too. That can be seen from the brief history of the mandolin and Shrinivas’ tryst and romance with it. What the world mostly does not know is the fact that Shrinivas had no formal Guru; he was a ‘Self’-taught musician. In his case, it was literally the ‘Self’ or God who inspired and taught him.

The Avatar of Krishna is one of the most beautiful descents ever. Nevertheless it is the most misunderstood. But the problem lies in the way we look at the personality of Krishna. The lessons that He taught were cryptically wrapped in His actions and words, and they would appear trivial, unreasonable or downright unacceptable for a common man. Bhagawan in a discourse delivered on 4 Sep 1996, on the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami spoke of this very predicament many find themselves in and taught us how we must look at the life and actions of Lord Krishna. Through this, Swami also explains how we must accept and apply the message of the scriptures in general. We now present you a few excerpts from that beautiful discourse.

It is so fantastic when you look at this entire continuum. It ends with duty — Rama Kaarya. At that point your life actually becomes a celebration; it becomes an unending saga of love for God. On one Thursday early morning, must’ve been two to three o'clock, I felt the fragrance of vibhuti in my room. In midst of that pleasant smell, I heard a voice. It was clearly Swami's voice. I heard Him say, 'I am here standing in front of you. I am not seen by you, as you would be frightened when I appear before you.' In that dream, Swami showed me a person and told me that you will marry him on such and such a date, month and year.

The State of Great Happiness

The State of Great Happiness

Posted on: May 14, 2014

Earlier when Bhaddiya was a king, he used to protect himself well with guards. Even when he was on the upper floor of his securely guarded palace, he would toss about in his bed overcome with fear. His joy after becoming an arahat (a monk who has attained enlightenment) was immense, as he no longer had that fear, and could roam about in forests and deserted places. So overjoyed was he that he burst into joyful exclamations “O happiness! O happiness!”

The world over, devotees of Bhagawan celebrate 6 May as the Easwaramma Day, in honour of beloved Mother Easwaramma. In the year 1977, the Sri Sathya Sai Organisation, with the blessings of Bhagawan also decided to dedicate this day to the Sai children around the globe. In Bhagawan's presence this special day would always bring with it a sea of exuberant Bal Vikas children who would infect the gathering with their pure love for Bhagawan. We would look forward to the bhajans these children offer to Bhagawan in their innocent and mellifluous voices.

Over the years, an entire ashram has grown around this place and presently, the ashram premises itself is referred to as Prasanthi Nilayam. Few realise how this ‘New Mandir’ itself as changed over the years.

SEEKING KNOWLEDGE THE RIGHT WAY

SEEKING KNOWLEDGE THE RIGHT WAY
Posted on: May 02, 2014

In a land where spiritual knowledge was celebrated and even revered, lived a scholar of brilliance that few could match. He had committed to memory a wide number of esoteric texts and could speak on any profound topic impromptu.

He gave the glimpse of the supreme peace to many who heard him talk, but alas, his was a heart that still sought that supreme peace itself. He successfully hid this failing under the cloak of scholarship, but how could he turn away from this restlessness? He was even surprised, that all the knowledge-gathering had even now left him wanting and un-satiated. He could not tolerate the paucity of inner peace any further. The pain was even deeper for him because he had no one else to share this secret failing.

CELEBRATE UGADI BY SACRIFICING SELFISHNESS AND  EMBRACING SELFLESSNESS
Posted on: Mar 31, 2014

The dawn of a new year always brings with it a new hope; a hope for good change, improvement and better tidings. Though this change need not necessarily wait for a new year, we inadvertently connect the two. This leads to the year being welcomed with hope-suffused celebrations and, eager and anxious prayers. In all this we forget that every new year is a reminder that time moves on swiftly, and that it is indeed necessary for us to introspect whether we are living the purpose for which this life is given to us.

He took a human form to show us the true meaning. In fact, people all over the world, celebrating the New Year, are seeking happiness and love. But what is happiness? Swami has repeatedly stated, “Happiness is union with God.” Until we are one with God, we cannot be truly happy.

When a disciple - in this case a highly qualified medical doctor - responds to His Master's call and surrenders totally to His will without reservation; when he applies himself day and night to the task assigned, consumed only by the passion to rise to the Master's expectations; the net outcome is the miracle called Sri Sathya Sai Mobile Hospital.

On 23 December 2013, the Sri Sathya Sai Mobile Hospital was recognised by the jury of CNBC-TV18 Health Care Awards, for its use of innovation to transform lives. About two years ago Father Kumeran Soobrayan, an Anglican Priest from South Africa, was on a visit to a few places in India. One of his stops was Tiruvannamalai, the sacred town in which resides the shrine of Lord Arunachaleswara. It is one of the ancient temples of Lord Shiva where He is worshipped as Agni Lingam (the lingam made of fire). Legend has it that aeons ago the Supreme Shiva manifested here as a huge pillar of brilliant light which today is the Annamalai mountain. The moment Father Kumeran sighted this mountain from inside the bus he was traveling in, he was so drawn that he decided to spend the next two years in contemplation and meditation in Tiruvannamalai.

At the time of India's independence in 1947, large sections of this country were so poor that they could not afford to buy enough clothes to even cover themselves fully. When Gandhiji saw this he too took to wearing only a loin cloth; he did not waste a single thing because so many in this country did not have adequate food to eat or money to buy basic needs. This lofty example of Gandhiji was followed by so many in India at that time. Just like a child likes to do what his/her father does, hundreds and thousands in this country too lead such a life of absolute simplicity, always feeling for the pain and suffering of their fellow brethren. And here is one such example of someone who followed Gandhiji's footsteps steadfastly.
