Holding ON to Him

Sriram Swaminathan (India)

This is a story of my experience of the Love, the most powerful of anything in this world, which I received when I held his hand.

My family members are ardent devotees of both the avatars of Sai Baba. I too followed the devotion as a mere follower of my family values. I have always prayed to the God for various endeavours in my professional and personal life but I never realised if that prayer was answered or not. In the year 2014, I took a drastic step in resigning my good job in Singapore and getting back to India; all for doing my MBA in a prestigious B-school in US and working on my start up idea to create my own product. All these desires were soaking in my mind for very long time and making me restless and allowed me to venture out.

After continuously working hard to get the right score in GMAT exam, which is that one common management aptitude test in order to take that MBA seat of your choice, I still couldn’t get the right score. I still focussed to apply for various B-schools with that score but was successfully getting rejected in every school and the idea for doing business was drying up due to low confidence. It was in the month of early February, my Mother, instilled an idea of applying for MBA at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. She said, that getting inside is very tough as there are multitudes considered in getting a seat here. Although, I had read few stories about Baba earlier, this was the first time, I devoted most of my time learning about Him, Sathya Sai Organisation and the institutes for learning. Merely reading these were giving me a sense of joy; this made me realise that a tinge of feeling the presence through His words or work, will always make a sorrow mind soaked in bliss.

I applied for the MBA course at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Learning, and I received an invitation from Puttaparthi for the entrance admission test. Invitation was itself a great joy to me and my parents. We had a great opportunity to visit this holy place and stay within the campus until I finished the various admission tests. As I passed the written admission test, group discussion and interview that happened on 4 different days, my parents and I had an opportunity to stay there for all these 4 days. In fact, we stayed there for 5 days. I went back with a feeling of positivity around me and sense of confidence that everything will be alright. I got the offer to join that prestigious institute, but I did not take it. I was 28 years old at that time and the senior most in the lot of candidates who got admitted. Although, I was able to convince the admission committee to give me the offer, deep inside me, I had a second idea. I felt that I got this opportunity from Baba to gain the lost confidence and took it as the fuel to move ahead in the life. I declined it boldly! At this point of time, I neither had a job in my hand nor any opportunity to pursue. It was all in my mind that He was definitely holding my hand that gave me this confidence to move ahead.

I tried couple of other things until I moved back to Singapore temporarily again in a tourist visit pass. I stayed there for 4 months in search of jobs. Two of my friends, were instrumental in my success. They gave me a place to stay and above all moral support that someone was there with me. There was a sense of feeling that Baba was guiding me and that led me to have sense of confidence within myself. If we think that God is the one who plans and directs a play called life, we don’t have to worry a bit.

Right now, He is holding my hand to share this experience and I will never leave his hand of Love!

Thank you and loving Sai Ram,
