The greatest obstacle on the path of surrender is ahamkaara (egoism) and Mamakara (possessiveness).  This is deep-rooted in your personality since ages.  It can certainly be removed only by the twin detergents of discrimination and renunciation.  Bhakthi (Devotion) is the water to wash away this dirt of ages and the soap of Japam (Repeating God's Name), Dhyanam (Meditating on His form) and Yoga (Communion with the Divine) will help remove it quicker and more effectively.
