If we look at the start of the Mahabharatha war in a superficial manner, we will see that Arjuna was thrown into despondence and confusion, and the opportunity required Krishna to impart the sacred Bhagavad Gita. This situation should not be described as a period of internal controversy. Arjuna did soul searching within himself to decide between truth and untruth, between propriety and impropriety. A human being’s life is transient. It is momentary, and in the context of the battlefield, Arjuna learnt to recognise the permanent truth. Lord Krishna raised the Pandavas as an exemplar so we understand the sacred heart of a devotee. Sometimes, as a result of difficulties, devotees’ hearts are immersed in sorrow. This is because of their ego and other bad qualities in their hearts coming to the surface and troubling them. To get such ego, jealousy, and unwanted traits out of the heart of devotees, God definitely intervenes and undertakes events to help them progress.
