Sathya Sai Baba

Without knowing pain, pleasure will not be enjoyable. Without sorrow, you will never understand the meaning of happiness. Although two aspects are always present, we should try and promote happiness. In our own body while good blood is flowing on one side, simultaneously on the other side there is impure blood. Even in our homes, we see that pure drinking water is brought from a pipe from one side, the filthy and bad drainage water is sent away by another conduit. They are both present in the same home. Similarly, in a village or city, while the drinking water is brought through certain pipes, alongside this there are pipes which carry the drainage; at times externally both look similar. So also, in our mind there are always two streams going. One is a stream of good ideas while the other is a rivulet of unholy thoughts, both flow together. You must make every attempt to accept the good and reject the bad.

Pleasure is as an interval between two pains. - Baba
