Sathya Sai Baba

The completion (samaptam) of the Yajna (sacrificial rite) is marked by the final offering in the ritual fire, called Purnahuti. The offering which every one of you must make in the Yajna is that of your bad thoughts, desires and actions. This is more important than anything else. Your desires seem to be ever on the increase! This clearly indicates that the spirit of renunciation (tyaga) has not developed to the slightest extent. Atleast now, should you not try to curb your desires to some extent? If there is no spiritual transformation in your way of life over the years, you would be guilty of having wasted all your energies, time and opportunities! Some day or other everyone will have to give up their material possessions. Hero is he who detaches himself from his possessions before he goes! The true meaning of Yajna Samaptam is Self-Realisation, to realise the Omni-Self that is present within and in every being.

- Divine Discourse, Oct 2, 1987.

Do all acts as offerings to God; do not classify some as ‘my work’ and some as ‘His’ work. - Baba
