Between You and Us

Dear Reader,

Sai Ram and Greetings. In this issue we feature two articles of importance. The first is about Swami's unparalleled water projects that have brought safe drinking water to one and a half million people living in the villages and small towns of the Anantapur, Mahabubnagar and Medak Districts of Andhra Pradesh. While reading our presentation on these great gifts of Compassion of our beloved Swami, we hope you would also take time off to reflect on water-related issues.

We can no longer take water for granted. We must know how to care for the gift that God has already given us, and how to preserve it for the future. We should not imagine that our only concern is how to use the water available. We must also remember that we are supposed to be the Trustees of God and preserve all natural resources, water included, for the future. In this context, Water Education based on Human Values assumes great importance and Brother Victor Kanu is doing wonderful work in this area in Africa. Based on the success of his work, the UN Millennium Task Force on Water and Sanitation is planning to take Swami's Message of Human Values all over the world. Incidentally, we see here a beautiful example of how the Sai Message is spreading quietly around the world. Later may be, we would do a feature on this exciting development.

The other article we would like to draw your attention to is the report on the recent Conference of Vice Chancellors held here in Prashanti Nilayam. Way back in the eighties when the University Grants Commission granted recognition as a Deemed University to Swami's Institute, the Review Committee appointed to examine the issue of recognition said that the day when would come when this Institute would be the torch bearer for values in India. That has indeed happened, and by way of celebrating its Golden Jubilee, the University Grants Commission decided to hold a Conference on Fostering Values; and what better place than Prashanti Nilayam?!

We hope you like these features and would also reflect on the messages they imply. Please do draw the attention of your friends to these articles, in case they are not aware. And, as usual, we invite you to write and tell us what you think. Just to remind you, we can be reached at: h2h@radiosai.org

Best wishes, and Jai Sai Ram.

SGH Team.
