Glorious Guru Poornima

Special Wallpaper and Ringtones

Today we celebrate the holy Guru Poornima festival, an occasion on which we revere our beloved Bhagawan as our Sadguru. But this year's Guru Poornima is more significant and special, for it marks the 50th year of the momentous Shiva-Shakthi Swaroopa declaration.

On 6 July 1963, Guru Poornima day, Bhagawan revealed for the first time that His descent was a Shiva-Shakthi Avatar - that He embodies the aspects of the Divine Mother and that of the Divine Father. On that historic day Bhagawan cured Himself of a partial paralysis that He had taken upon Himself, and in the discourse that followed, while describing the cause for the ailment He made this revelation:

“I have been keeping back from you all these years one secret about Me; the time has come when I can reveal it to you for this is a sacred day. I am Shiva-Shakthi. Born in the Gothra of Bharadwaja, according to a boon won by that sage from Shiva and Shakthi. Shiva Himself was born in the Gothra of that sage as Sai Baba of Shirdi; Shiva and Shakthi have incarnated as Myself in his Gothra now; Shakthi alone will incarnate as the third Sai in the same Gothra, in Mysore State.

“This illness had to be borne by Shakthi (the consort of Siva), for She incurred the ire of Her Lord by neglecting to notice Bharadwaja for full eight days at Kailash, their home. As a consequence of the neglect, Bharadwaja had suffered a stroke; Shiva sprinkled restorative water and cured him. Today, you saw the illness of Shakthi (the left half) cured by Shiva (the right half) by the same means. These matters are beyond human ken; so I had kept it from you so long. The devotee who was saved by My 'taking over' is only the 'immediate' cause, the 'remote' cause is the boon and the retribution.”

On the Golden Jubilee of that glorious event, Radio Sai humbly offers at the lotus feet of our Divine Master our love and gratitude. We are happy to share with you all, a special wallpaper made to commemorate this day. This was made by a Radio Sai volunteer, Sai Kaustuv Dasgupta.

What Bhagawan said in conclusion on that Guru Poornima day fifty years back is relevant to us even today, and definitely worth recalling. He said:

“Nothing can impede or halt the work of this Avatar. When I was upstairs all these days, some people foolishly went about saying, 'It is all over with Sai Baba' and they turned back many who were coming to Puttaparthi! Some said I was in Samaadhi, as if I am a Sadhaka! Some feared I was the victim of black magic, as if anything can affect Me! The splendour of this Avatar will go on increasing, day by day. When the Govardhanagiri was raised aloft by the little boy (Krishna), the gopees and gopalas realised that Krishna was the Lord Himself. Now, it is not one Govardhanagiri, a whole range will be lifted, you will see! Have patience, have faith.”

Let us all accept this as Bhagawan's message on this holy day – 'Have patience, have faith'. He is the Lord who embodies the soft-heartedness of a mother and the protective care of the father. But He is nevertheless the Supreme Guru, whose vow it is to lead us to the ultimate goal. Let us have the faith that He is completely in charge of our lives and let us have the patience to let things happen in His time.
