Getting Spiritually Better

The problem is that when you ask for pleasure, you are unwittingly asking for pain also! Remember that!!

The point here is that if one does Karma and aspires for Karmaphalam, then the duality of the pairs of opposites is inevitable.

Is it not possible to pray so hard that God gives pleasure only? No, not possible. Why not? Because pleasure is something connected with the world. But the world being dual, pleasure does not exist all by itself; it is linked to pain. Thus, when we are asking for pleasure, we are also unwittingly asking for pain; we are totally ignorant of this. God will grant us what we want; He will give us pleasure but not separated from pain. Pleasure and pain are stuck together in the world. When we ask something of the world, we must be ready to accept it in toto. If we don’t want pain, then we must not ask God for pleasure! [If we like, we can ask Him for something else. We shall come to that shortly.]
