Getting Spiritually Better

How to get out of this rut? This is where working without craving for a particular outcome becomes very important.

  • What Swami and Krishna say is: “By all means work. Do the work appropriate to the station in life that Destiny has placed you in [as a doctor, teacher, lawyer, or whatever]. But, while working, don’t think of becoming great, winning awards, gaining power, gaining promotion and success, achieving fame, etc. Just imagine you are working for God, think you are working for His pleasure, and make your work itself into an offering for Him.
  • Fine, but how does this help? Well, it first of all liberates one from craving for success. Instead, one now takes the attitude, “He is anyway the doer. I am merely His instrument. I am therefore neither responsible for success or failure. He knows best and He decides what the outcome ought to be. Whatever it is, I only know that it is all for good.”
