If in addition you work with the feeling that your patient is really God in disguise, and that your work is being done to please Him, as an offering to Him, then your work gets further elevated to the category of Pavithra Karma. With that, you have almost arrived!

That then is the ‘secret’ formula for spiritualising life. It does not matter what our station in life is and what work we are destined to do – this is one of the important points stressed by Krishna to Arjuna. One may be a cobbler, a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, a judge, even a housewife or a politician, in fact anything. As long as one does one’s duty [associated with one’s position in life] in a selfless manner, without an eye on the praise or reward that might ensue, and with a feeling of Love, with the feeling that one is really working for God and as an offering to God, then one is doing Pavithra Karma. That is all that matters.
